The Grand Island Police Department is providing residents with a way to help protect their valuables.
GIPD has started using a web-based service, Leads Online, to track stolen property that has been pawned or purchased in over 26,000 locations across the United States.
The company also offers a service to citizens of participating jurisdictions called Report It, which allows residents to log their personal goods with the service.
The free services stores information, such as photos and scanned receipts of an individuals personal property, including jewelry, sporting goods, tools and electronics. If any of the items included on a profile is stolen there is a much better chance of them being recovered.
The account is free and private. Grand Island residents can go to reportit.leadsonline.com to set up an account. The Grand Island Police Facebook page has an instructional video on getting signed up.
