The Better Business Bureau is alerting Nebraskans to a phone scam targeting the tourism community.
The Nebraska Tourism Commission has received multiple calls about a man claiming to be with the commission who is asking for money.
The caller says he is verifying information for the next Nebraska Travel Guide and that listings in the guide will now cost $599. The Nebraska Tourism Commission warns that he is not affiliated with them in any way, and they do not charge for inclusion in their travel guide.
Both groups are warning individuals to not give the caller any money or credit card information.
The Nebraska Tourism Commission does however have an intern, Megan, calling to collect 2012 attendance information. She will not be asking for money though.
If you do receive a call from the scammer, call Shannon Peterson at 402.471.3797 to report it.
The BBB says to always be wary of anyone asking for money over the phone and to call them if you suspect a scam. The BBB can be reached at 800-649-6814 or at bbb.org.
