GI Celebrates Business Success

Posted: Updated:

Grand Island celebrated business success at the annual meeting of the Grand Island Economic Development Corporation.

Despite all the national economic turmoil, central Nebraska continues to hold its own.

Grand Island continues to see growth, and in November, voters overwhelmingly voted to renew the city's business incentive plan.

Economic Development Director Marlan Ferguson said, "I think that sends a message that yes, they believe we're doing the right thing and last nine years have been good for that program. We're pleased with that."
Mayor Jay Vavricek said a big priority is keeping the state veterans home located in the city. But they will have to compete against other cities.

He said, "Grand Island Veterans Home, 125 years later we want it for another 125 years and we're talking about economic development -- 3 to 400 jobs is so important but also service and sacrifice is something we all embrace in Grand Island."
Award winners at this banquet included Chief Industries, celebrating 60 years in business.
