Members
of the University of Nebraska Student Government are developing a community
service project called Play It Forward on the UNK campus and Kearney community
which will kick off Wednesday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Loper
basketball game.
Members
of Student Government will be collecting used sporting equipment starting Feb.
27 and accepting goods until the end of the school year. The sporting
equipment will be donated to the local Special Olympics. Cash donations are
also accepted.
Bins
will be set up throughout campus in the Nebraskan Student Union, Cushing
Coliseum, and West Center where any equipment or apparel can be deposited. Cash
donations can be dropped off at the Welcome Desk in the Nebraskan Student Union
or mailed to:
ATTN: Office of Student Life
1013 West 27th St.
Kearney, NE 68849
The
Play It Forward organization began in Texas by a group of students who decided
they wanted to give back to their local community. Donations are used to ensure
every child has an opportunity to play sports, even if they are unable to
afford equipment. The UNK campus will be the first collegiate campus to
participate in this community service event.
