Lincoln Police Officer Dead After Collapsing at Gym - KHGI-TV/KWNB-TV/KHGI-CD-Grand Island, Kearney, Hastings

A veteran Lincoln police officer has died after being rushed to a hospital following a collapse at a gym.

Officer John Clarke died Monday.

Clarke had been part of the Lincoln Police Department for 21 years. He served as the lead trainer for the canine unit and worked as a canine handler for 15 of those 21 years.

Lincoln officials say Clarke was an accomplished officer with many commendations.

The cause of the 43-year-old's death is not yet clear.

Clarke is survived by his wife, Lisa, and three children.
