A North Platte man has been sentenced to 6-10 years in prison for the death of a bicyclist killed in June 2011.

Last December Michael Malmkar, 21, pleaded no contest to charges of vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident last December.

Authorities say Malmkar hit 56-year-old Levern Walter and his wife, Roberta, while they were riding their bikes along State Farm Road south of North Platte. Levern Walter died of his injuries before officers arrived.

Roberta Walter was taken to the hospital where she was treated and released.
