SHARE Project Benefits Many in the Community

Posted: Updated:

The SHARE project, with the support of the Heartland United Way, facilitates the collection and distribution of specific new items to benefit people in need in the Grand Island community. SHARE donations can be dropped off at any convenient Five Points Bank location.

Each month specific basic and essential items will be collected to help families struggling to make ends meet. Collected items are distributed each month through local organizations who work with area families.

Plans are underway to provide distribution to our area "working poor" population and to pursue outreach through Grand Island's faith community.

Melissa DeLaet at Hope Harbor comments that "SHARE provides us with access to items needed to help the homeless and near homeless population. It has provided an opportunity for community members to be aware of ongoing shortages and to SHARE where it is needed most."

Collection items include:

  • February: Toilet paper, Kleenex
  • March: Diapers (all sizes), baby wipes
  • May: Trash bags, disinfectant spray, Ziplock bags
  • June: Laundry soap, antibacterial hand soap, sunscreen
  • July: Toilet paper, paper towels
  • August: Socks, underwear (all sizes)
  • September: Diapers (all sizes), baby wipes
  • October: Feminine hygiene products, Kleenex
  • November/December: Children's books only

Children's books are collected at all times to support and encourage reading in families.
