Hastings – Central Community College students won't be seeing an increase in tuition for the 2013-2014 school year.
The CCC Board of Governors meeting Thursday at CCC-Hastings unanimously approved a proposal to keep tuition for the next academic year at the current rates of $80 a semester-hour of credit for Nebraska residents and $120 a credit for nonresidents.
The board also agreed to keep room and board at current rates for students living in campus housing.
Room rates remain at $1,628 a semester for double or triple occupancy and $3,256 a semester for single occupancy. Meal plans will also remain at $1,383 a semester for 14 meals a week and $1,624 a semester for 19 meals a week.
The only increase approved by the board is $2 a semester-hour in student fees. The fee will rise from $8 to $10 a semester-hour. That amounts to a $60-a-year increase for a full-time student taking 30 semester-hours of course work during the year.
Tuition and fees apply to all students taking credit classes at CCC's campuses in Columbus, Grand Island and Hastings; at its centers in Holdrege, Kearney and Lexington; at locations throughout the college's 25-county service area; and online through CCC's Virtual Campus.
"We are attempting to keep costs low for our students," College President Dr. Greg Smith said. "We believe we will have an adequate operating budget for 2013-14 without raising costs for students."
During the meeting the board also gave tentative approval for three budgets for 2013-14:
The tentative approval authorizes the college to expend funds for building maintenance or construction projects after the start of the 2013-14 fiscal year on July 1.
Final approval for the three funds is scheduled for the board's meeting on Sept. 17, following a public hearing.
