Scottsbluff - Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol Troop E- Scottsbluff made 480 seatbelt enforcement contacts during a special effort designed to save lives by increasing seat belt usage in Scotts Bluff County.
During high visibility patrols, conducted during the evening hours in January and February, troopers issued 60 seatbelt citations and warnings, along with two child restraint citations.
Within the two month period Scotts Bluff County recorded two roadway fatalities. Seat belts were not in use in either fatal crash.
"The single most important thing motorists can do is buckle their seat belt," said Lt. Jamey Balthazor, Troop E- Scottsbluff. "In addition to saving the financial impact of a possible traffic ticket, you increase your odds of surviving a crash with reduced injuries and most importantly your life."
The following statistics reflect enforcement activity paid for thanks in part to an $11,000 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety (NOSH).
