Fischer Calls Out Washington In Response to Sequester

Posted: Updated:

Washington failed to hold off the automatic spending cuts, known as the sequester, and the cuts are set to go into effect at midnight Friday.

In response, U.S. Senator Deb Fischer is asking for lawmakers to "stop the insanity".

Fischer blames leadership at the top of our government for leading us into, what she calls, another "manufactured fiscal crisis".

The senator wants to reign in government spending but thinks across the board cuts are the wrong way to do it.

"Under current law, sequestration was not designed to raise taxes," said Fischer. "If it was, taxes would go up automatically. Instead, this law was designed to cut spending. Budget cuts must happen and they will happen. It's just a matter of deciding on priorities."

With congress paralyzed by spending cut negotiations Fischer says she wonders if America will ever see a balanced budget again.
