A big event with a big name is coming, bringing history to life.
"Amelia Earhart" and "Calamity Jane" visited Grand Island on Friday.
They're preparing for Chautauqua.
The event travels to a different location each year, and this year Stuhr Museum will play host for the first time in more than a decade.
Jane and Amelia are actually Dr. Joyce Thierer and Dr. Ann Birney of "Ride Into History".
The two will work with kids during the Nebraska Chautauqua to put on something that's equal parts history camp and theater camp.
Birney said, "They are going to become...
"...historians, researchers, script writers, actors," the two said in unison.
Thierer said, "And they're going to have two responsibilities - accuracy and entertainment."
"And they're going to know that from day one. We're going to have a great group of people," Birney concluded.
The theme of this year's Chautauqua is "Free Land", celebrating the Homestead Act that shaped the great plains.
It takes place June 26-30 in Grand Island at Stuhr Museum. For more, visit www.nebraskachautauqua.org.
