Grand Island community members will get a chance to see the proposed Grand Island Downtown Revitalization Plan and ask questions about the project.
The presentation will be held Tuesday, March 12, at 1:30 p.m. at the Grand Theatre, 316 W. Third St.
Alley Poyner Macchietto Architectural Design Firm, lead consultants for the project, will be giving the presentation and then answering questions about the plan.
Community Development Administrator Marco Floreani said, "The plan is a vision
of how downtown Grand Island can be revitalized and includes many strategies in
making downtown a more vibrant and active place in our community." Input from the community has already been taken and combined with the design firm's ideas to make the current plan.
The city of Grand Island would like to hear input about the presentation from all citizens, not just downtown business owners and residents.
The presentation will also be shown at the city council meeting later that same night at 7 p.m. Citizens are also invited to attend this meeting or watch the presentation on Grand Island Television, Charter Communications channel 6 or analog 56. A live stream of the presentation will also be available at www.grand-island.com/gitvstreaming.
Phase one of the planning process will be complete with the presentation of the Downtown Revitalization Plan. Phase one included $30,000 in grant funding as part of a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (NDED), with a $20,000 match from the city of Grand Island and Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) #8.
Phase two will be the implementation of the plan. As part of this phase, the city of Grand Island will submit a $350,000 grant application for implementation funds for elements of the Downtown Revitalization Plan. The grant will be submitted to the NDED at the end of March.
