Donating a few hours of their Saturday morning, volunteers across the state packed enough food to feed hundreds of thousands of people for a full year.
The food will go to some of the least developed nations in Africa -- many of whom don't know where their next meal will come from.
Father Mike McDermott with the Grand Island Church of the Resurrection recently returned from a visit to several parts of Africa, and said he saw that need first hand.
"I saw that in a lot of different locations, because of the fact that they are so dependent on agriculture," McDermott said. "Many times what happens is that they may receive no rain or too much rain, so you have drought versus flooding."
The efforts from volunteers in Grand Island, along with three other parishes across the state, packaged enough food to feed 120,000 people for a full year.
