Heineman Appoints Mark Johnson to 7th District Court

Lincoln – On Thursday Gov. Dave Heineman announced his appointment of Mark A. Johnson of Norfolk to the District Court, 7th Judicial District.

Johnson, 57, is the President and a partner at Johnson, Morland, Easland and Lohrberg in Norfolk, a private law firm he started as a solo practitioner in 1989. He has previously worked in the Law Office of Robert M. Cook in Norfolk, the Dodge County Attorney's Office in Fremont and Cunningham, Battershell and Bergin in McCook.

In 2010, Johnson received a special appointment from the Nebraska Attorney General as an Assistant Nebraska Attorney General for a case.

From 1990 to 2000, Johnson served as an adjunct Instructor at Northeast Community College in Norfolk, teaching courses in Criminal Law and the Law of Evidence. He periodically teaches seven-week Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation courses in Financial Education at the Probation Office in Norfolk.

Johnson served on the Board of Directors of the Northeast Nebraska Community Concert Association for 22 years, and has served as President twice in that time.

He occasionally does pro bono work for the ARC of Nebraska (Association for Retarded Citizens). He also serves on the Board of Directors for Oasis Counseling International, a mental health counseling organization.

Johnson earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and his Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska College of Law.

The 7th Judicial District consists of Antelope, Cuming, Knox, Madison, Pierce Stanton and Wayne counties. The District Court vacancy was due to the retirement of Judge Robert B. Ensz.
