Bill Proposed to Address DHHS Complaints, Officials Oppose - KHGI-TV/KWNB-TV/KHGI-CD-Grand Island, Kearney, Hastings

Nebraska lawmakers are trying to speed up the process for public benefits.

Senator Kate Bolz of Lincoln offered a bill that seeks to address repeated complaints from recipients.

The measure would direct the Department of Health and Human Services to expand its information-sharing programs, cut down on paperwork and make reasonable efforts to reduce the number of case closures.

Department officials opposed the bill. They say federal rules prohibit certain information sharing.
