Nebraskans Encouraged to Prepare During Severe Weather Awareness Week

Posted: Updated:

Severe Weather Awareness Week for Nebraska begins next week, running from March 25 through the 29.

A statewide tornado drill will take place on March 27 between 10 and 11 a.m. Every Emergency Management agency across Nebraska will participate in the drill to prepare for severe weather season.

Local outdoor warning sirens, NOAA Weather Radio alarms and the Emergency Alert System will be activated to signal the start of the drill. Schools, hospitals, industries, public facilities, and citizens are encouraged to test their emergency preparedness during the drill.

Other threats that residents are encouraged to be prepared for include: flash flooding, large hail, lightning, and damaging winds.

Contact the Buffalo County Emergency Management office at (308) 233-3225 or the National Weather Service office in Hastings at (402) 462-4287 with any questions.
