The state speech competition has begun in Kearney, and hundreds of students across Nebraska filled the University of Nebraska-Kearney campus. Those students participating on Thursday were in classes A, B, and C-1.
Humorous interpretation of prose, informative public speaking, and duet-acting were just some of the performances seen. Students say this is a prestigious event that they are sure to benefit from.
"Just being here and seeing all the state competitions helped me realize what it takes to get to state. I really do think it's important to have those communication skills that will be beneficial down the road," said Jenna Longmore, sophomore at Gering High School.
