Lexington Elementary Schools May Get Overhaul

Posted: Updated:

A new proposal by the Lexington public school district will re-vamp the way their elementary system is run.

They will try to combine grade-levels in the three elementary schools. Each school only teaching two grades. Sandoz elementary would teach Kindergarten-1st, Morton would be 2nd-3rd grades and Pershing would take 4th-5th graders.

A driving force of this revamp is what's to come next year. The requirements in No Child Left Behind Act say that all schools will be required to meet 100 percent AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) report or the district could face massive cuts in funding.

Lexington's district isn't quite there yet, so by changing their elementary format the district hopes to have time to meet those standards.
