OMAHA, Neb. (AP) —
Nebraskans are being urged to watch out for online scams after a woman
lost nearly $2,500 while searching for a roommate.
The Better Business Bureau of Nebraska issued a warning Monday that scams related to real estate are common online.
BBB's Jim Hegarty says an Omaha woman who answered an ad appearing to
be from a Canadian woman moving to Nebraska lost $2,485.
says the woman deposited bogus money orders, and then agreed to transfer
thousands to people who were supposedly helping the Canadian woman
The Omaha woman's bank later determined the money orders were fake, and now the woman must repay the money she transferred out.
Consumers are urged to resist deals that require depositing a payment and then transferring some of the money elsewhere.
