4-H Holding Discovery Nights to Inform Nebraska Youth About Program Options

Posted: Updated:

The University of Nebraska Extension 4-H Youth Development program offers Nebraska youth the chance to participate in many fun researched-based education programs.

4-H is the largest non-formal youth organization in the world. Over 120,000 youth belong to 4-H just in Nebraska. Over 7 million belong to 4-H across America.

4-H is the official youth program of Extension at the University of Nebraska. Any youth ages 5 to 18 can belong to 4-H. There are over 150 projects to choose from; ranging from rockets, to livestock, to home environment to computers.

The Extension program is holding a Discovery Night Tuesday, April 2 from 5-7 p.m. at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Franklin.

Discovery Night is a night for young people to get a taste of what 4-H is all about. This event will showcase about 13 projects.

There will be projects such as marbling paper, exploring careers, planting seeds, learning about woodworking—hammering nails, doing a unique tie-dyeing technique with t-shirts, trapshooting, and many other fun projects.

It is also time to sign up for 4-H camp. There is currently an early bird discount available if you sign up before April 15. Brochures can be obtained at your local Extension Office. For more information about the 4-H camps, go to 4h.unl.edu.
