CVS Building Pharmacy in Grand Island

Posted: Updated:

It's a prescription for redevelopment, as a big national chain chooses a vacant property for a new store in Grand Island.

CVS Pharmacy plans to build in the heart of Grand Island.
Orange Development was issued a building permit last week to tear down the former Bag N Save at 1710 W. Second Street.

According to their permit, they intend to build a 13,000 square foot store at Second and Broadwell.

That happens to be the same intersection as the company's big competitor, Walgreens.

CVS is one of the nation's biggest administrators of employee drug plans. City officials said some Grand Island employers currently provide benefits through CVS Caremark.

Walgreens has two stores in Grand Island, while U–Save operates three Grand Island stores.

According to the company's website, CVS operates more than 7,000 pharmacies, including 13 in Nebraska. This would be the first CVS in Grand Island, and the first outside Omaha and Lincoln.
