Halsey - The U.S. Forest Service would like to remind the public that the comment period for the Bessey Travel Management Review Project will continue through Sunday, April 14.
This will be the only opportunity to comment on this project.
Tim Buskirk, Bessey district ranger said, "We really want folks to get involved and let us know what they think of the proposed changes. Public comment is a vital part of our project analysis."
The proposed Travel Management changes are intended to provide additional motorized access on existing user-created routes in several areas of the Samuel R. McKelvie National Forest and the Bessey Division of the Nebraska National Forest, explained Buskirk. Implementation of this project is anticipated in February of 2014 with the publication of a new Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM).
According to the process, comments must be received within 30 days after official public notification to be considered in the final analysis of the proposed action, which then allows standing for an appeal.
Interested persons may stop by the Bessey Ranger District office to view maps and information from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at 40637 River Loop, near Halsey or call (308) 533-2257.
