Beatrice Man Arrested for Stealing, Forging Checks

Posted: Updated:

BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say a 33-year-old Beatrice man has been charged with forging checks that he stole from his landlord.

According to the Beatrice Daily Sun, Justin Stewart was arrested after talking to Beatrice Police investigators earlier this week.

Court documents say Stewart is suspected of taking checks he found stored in a house he was renting. He would then forge signatures on the checks so he could buy videogame equipment that he'd later sell for cash. The documents say Stewart told investigators that he used the money to buy drugs.

Gage County Jail records say Stewart remained in custody on Wednesday. Online court records don't list the name of his attorney.
