A long–standing tournament has reached beyond state borders, raising the bar for local wrestlers.
Wrestlers from 11 states worked on honing their skills at UNK's 13th annual Midwest Classic National Championships.
Growing from just 650 participants the first year, this tournament is now averaging roughly 1,500 participants per year, with wrestlers coming from as far as California and Illinois.
"You've got your die hards out there that go to the big events," said event coordinator Marc Bauer. "And again, this is that opportunity for Nebraska kids that when they compete against kids at a higher level, it's great for their learning."
The "Midwest Classic" is geared towards kids from as young as six years old to 18 year olds, and helps fund the UNK Antelope wrestling program.
