A chemical reaction has sent five people to the hospital from the JBS Swift packing plant.
According to the Grand Island Fire Department, a chemical reaction occurred when a truck driver accidentally mixed bleach with acid. Grand Island Fire Chief Cory Schmidt says the mixture of chemicals caused a reaction that produced toxic gas.
The plant was evacuated for more than an hour to clear out the fumes, and five workers were sent to the hospital where they were treated and released. Fire officials say the situation is now under control.
