Walk MS Hopes to Raise Money, Increase Awareness for Local Chapter

Posted: Updated:

In 600 cities across the country, thousands of people will walk to one destination: a world free of Multiple Sclerosis. Register for the annual Walk MS event at Barr Middle School on Saturday, April 27 to join in the movement.

Money raised by the event will provide funds for local programs and services and research on a national level. The event itself looks to create a hope-filled and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone affected by MS while generating a greater awareness of Multiple Sclerosis in the public at large.

"Walk MS provides the means and a way to bring the community together for the MS cause," said Kay Julian, chapter president for the Mid-America Chapter of the National MS Society. "It's a way for people affected by MS and people connected to MS to walk, volunteer and participate all for the cause."

Walk MS includes three and six mile routes, complete with rest stops, snacks and encouragement from volunteers. The walk also has an accessible route so people of all abilities can participate.

Individuals have the option to register alone or as part of a team. Those that don't want to walk can help the cause by volunteering at a rest stop or donating to the cause. Register online at MSmidamerica.org or call 1-800-344-4867.
