An afternoon car chase through Dawson County ended with the arrest of a man and woman wanted in connection with a string of robberies in Minnesota and South Dakota, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.
On Monday, just after 3:30 p.m., a trooper spotted a vehicle that was suspected to be involved in the robberies.
The trooper called for backup and continued to follow the light colored Crown Victoria west on Highway 30.
The vehicle stopped briefly just east of Cozad but as troopers began to approach the vehicle, it sped off. The car continued westbound reaching speeds near 90 mph.
Apparent engine problems caused the vehicle to come to a stop about two miles west of Cozad where the trooper and backup officers were able to apprehend the driver and one passenger without incident.
The driver carried a Virginia I.D. and was identified as 25-year-old Jarrod Everett Birch. His passenger Alyssa Beard, 19, of Petersburg, Virginia had been reported as a missing person.
Three handguns and various burglary tools were found when authorities searched the car.
Birch was taken into custody at the Dawson County Jail on charges of felony flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of stolen property.
Beard was lodged in the Dawson County Jail on charges of possession of stolen property and carrying a concealed weapon.
The Dawson County Sheriff's Office assisted the Nebraska State Patrol in the pursuit and arrest.
