Aging facilities and growing enrollment...Kearney Public Schools continue to look for ways to move forward.
Just four years ago a school bond passed working on the elementary side, but the focus is now on the middle and high schools.
Both Horizon Middle School and Kearney High Schools are aging facilities and are overcrowded, but finding solutions costs money.
"Whatever it is we come up with as a solution is a reasonable solution from an instructional standpoint, from a long term standpoint, and from a financial standpoint,"said KPS Superintendent Dr. Brian Maher. "And I think if it fails either one of those tests it's probably gonna fail in the community."
Officials need to gauge community input on problems put before them, and are hoping to start discussing solutions this fall.
