A local event shows that building healthy families can lead to a healthier community across the board.
Many families enjoy their day outside by running and exercising together. Activate Buffalo County teamed up with several organizations over the weekend, showing off what the area has to offer.
With events from Saturday morning's 5k fun run to a story walk with the Kearney Public Library, they want to show a healthy lifestyle starts at home; not just at the gym, but in every way of life.
"I think the family element is huge. It's really important because what your parents teach you is what you become," said event coordinator Holden Armstrong. "And by bringing the entire family together and kind of having everyone be active, they lead as role models for their children and they get to be active themselves."
'Healthy Kids Weekend' continues Sunday with activities including a kid fit fashion show at the Hilltop Mall, a free family weekend at the YMCA and Bicycle Sunday.
