For the first time since its inception five years ago, students on the Hastings College rodeo team did not have to travel as the college hosted its first rodeo.
The rodeo drew in teams from North and South Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin and other areas of Nebraska.
Students on the team said it was nice riding in front of a home crowd.
"Some people have never seen us do this, especially our friends at the college," Molly Conner, a Hastings senior on the rodeo team, said. "To have them be here to see us do this is really awesome, and it's cool to be where we practice every day."
"We're used to traveling a lot," Hastings senior Richard Coats said. "We actually had a rodeo in Lincoln last weekend, and this one this weekend, so we had two close ones in a row."
The rodeo is named after the late Bobby Gottsch Jr. -- the man who was a big part of forming the Hastings College rodeo team.
