Posted: Updated:

Lincoln – The Nebraska Energy Assistance Network (NEAN) is set to award grants to seven agencies to help them educate families on better ways to manage their energy needs.

The grant recipients will be recognized during the Energy Education - Managing Challenges and Finding Solutions symposium on Friday, May 17, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Convention Center in Kearney.

The grants provide the agencies with up to 30 energy efficiency kits and educational training program materials. The kits along with the educational facilitator's guide are valued at $700.

Agencies receiving the grants are:

  • McCook Economic Development Corporation, McCook
  • Community Action Partnership of Lancaster and Saunders County, Lincoln
  • Rebuilding Together Omaha, Inc., Omaha
  • Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska, Gering
  • Blue Valley Community Action, Fairbury
  • Christian Outreach Program of Elkhorn, Elkhorn
  • Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska, Inc., Omaha

"The kits are effective tools for educating customers on how to save energy in their homes," said Roger Hunt of Nebraska Public Power District's Energy Efficiency team in Sterling.

The NEAN Symposium will provide attendees with ideas, tools and skills for attendees to use when discussing energy use with clients.

Several symposium topics and presenters are planned for the event, including

Changing Minds – Changing Behaviors by Mary Ferdig, president of the Sustainability Leadership Institute and a presentation by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
