Jury selection will begin in Adams County Monday for the trial of a man accused of beating his 2–year–old grandson to death last year in the South–Central Nebraska town of Naponee.
Peter Draper, 48, is charged with intentional child abuse resulting in Joseph Rinehart Junior's death. He died in April of 2012 after family members took him to the hospital for severe vomiting.
Court records say family members told police that they had watched Draper abuse the boy on several different occasions.
An autopsy showed Joseph died of head and internal injuries.
Draper is one of three family members charged in the case. His wife, 48-year-old Nancy Draper, and Joseph's mother, 25-year-old Laura Rinehart, are also charged with intentional child abuse resulting in death.
Nancy Draper's trial is set to begin June 17 in Phelps County. A trial date for Rinehart has not yet been set.
Defense attorneys for Peter Draper say his trial is expected to last five days.
