NTV Wraps Up Annual Tri-City Blood Drive

Posted: Updated:

NTV wrapped up its 10th annual Tri-City Blood Drive in partnership with the American Red Cross Monday evening. Donors from across the state came out in support of the drive, both veteran donors and many first timers.

The 2013 goal was 150 pints and this year's drive blew past that, reaching 171 pints of blood. Over 80 people donated in Kearney, Grand Island was well into the 30's and Hastings came out in between with about 50 donors.

More than 1,500 pints of blood have been donated through the nine years of this blood drive. That equals up to 4,500 lives that have been touched by that life-saving gift.

One pint of blood, the standard whole blood donation most donors give, can save up to three lives and the entire process takes just about an hour of the donors time.

The process is fairly painless as well, with the actual time spent on the donation taking only about 10 to 20 minutes.

The Red Cross holds over 200,000 drives per year so if you missed out on donating at Monday's drive, another chance is right around the corner. There is a constant need for blood and donations are always needed and welcomed by the Red Cross.
