Officials with the city of Kearney are warning residents to be careful when putting up signs around town for garage sales, realtor signs or other advertising signs.
City regulations prohibit placing signs on utility poles, traffic controllers signs, in the street right-of-way or on any structure in the street right-of-way. The rule-of-thumb is to keep signs inside of the sidewalk or 15 feet from the roadside.
Signs hung in prohibited spots may create a traffic hazard and cause damage to the property. The city will throw away any illegally posted signs.
