Sen. Chambers Presents Alternative for Nebraska Tax Study
Sen. Ernie Chambers
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Sen.
Ernie Chambers has argued for months that lawmakers don't need a law to
study Nebraska's tax climate, and he's presenting an alternative.
Legislature's Executive Board advanced a resolution Wednesday that
Chambers has introduced. The longtime state senator says his measure
would accomplish the same goal as a tax-study bill now pending in the
Legislature, while allowing more flexibility.
Lawmakers have given
first-round approval to the bill, which would create a Tax
Modernization Commission. The idea gained some prominence after an
earlier plan to eliminate or reduce Nebraska's income tax was scrapped.
says lawmakers have created special committees in the past without
passing laws. He says resolutions are easier to change and extend than
bills. The committee would be comprised of lawmakers.
