May is Mental Health Month and this year's theme is Pathways to Wellness.
Mental Health America has led the observation of Mental Health Month for over 60 years and has come up with a few simple steps to help improve our wellness.
Wellness is defined as "an active process of becoming aware of and making choices towards a more successful existence." When we take good care of our body and mind, we are better able to manage our day-to-day life, as well as managing the changes that life brings.
The four simple steps leading to wellness include:
A healthy diet -- this includes a healthy breakfast.
Regular exercise -- helps improve overall physical and mental well-being.
Relaxation -- take time each day to unwind; this may include a good laugh.
Rest -- getting 7-9 hours of sleep each night provides the resources to cope with life.
