Infant in Fair Condition Following Fall in Mall Parking Lot

Posted: Updated:

A four–month–old baby is in fair condition after being dropped onto the pavement Saturday night in the parking lot at Kearney's Hilltop Mall.

Authorities say 18-year-old Nicholas Bailey, of Kearney, was running across the parking lot with his nephew, Dallas Pettit, above his head in a car seat. Dallas reportedly slipped out of the seat and fell to the pavement, hitting his head.

The infant was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with a skull fracture and minor brain bleed. He has since improved from stable condition and as of Monday morning is in fair condition.

Police decided to cite Bailey for child abuse following the review of surveillance video.
