More than 1,000 homes in northern Buffalo County lost power Tuesday evening after a crop duster struck a powerline.

The Buffalo County Sheriff's Department confirmed the plane struck in a rural area between Pleasanton and Ravenna around 5:15 p.m. near the intersection of 370th and Hawk Road.

The pilot of the plane, whose name has not yet been released, was not injured. It is believed the plane landed safely at a nearby air strip.

However, Dawson Public Power District says the initial impact broke five 'H' structures and a large section of the static wire leaving many without power for hours after the incident. The power company says a transmission switch north of Pleasanton was also damaged.

DPPD was able to restore poser to area residents by 10 p.m. Tuesday despite additional damage caused by a wire that became attached to the plane which then came into contact and caused damage to some distribution power lines.

It is expected to take several days for crews to complete repairs to the transmission line.
