The cast for Grand Island Little Theatre's production of Monty Python's Spamalot has been named and rehearsals are underway. The show will kick off the 2013-2014 GILT season.
Traditionally, the community theatre has had a four show season, plus an outdoor summer show. This year, however, the summer musical is included in the season and will be held indoors. Shows for the season are Spamalot, Leading Ladies, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, 12 Angry Men and Annie.
Season tickets are available now and start at $70 for an individual ticket. Spamalot is a musical comedy, "lovingly ripped off" from the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Running June 14-16 and 21-23, all 7:30 pm performances, at the Hornady Marshall Auditorium
at College Park, the show features a large cast, and comedy ranging from lunacy to hilarity.
It's a spoof of the legendary tale of King Arthur's quest for the Holy Grail and the oddities he
encounters along the way.
The show's cast is comprised of many GILT veterans, as well as several accomplished students and newcomers. Taking on the role of King Arthur is Jerry Poels, with Mike Bockoven playing Sir Robin. Other actors include Emily Roemmich as Lady of the Lake, Dillon Edwards as Sir Lancelot, Matt Boyle as Sir Galahad and Steven Scott as Patsy.Rounding out the cast are knights, a French taunter, The Laker Girls, Tim the Enchanter, Not Dead Fred, The Black Knight and a slew of other characters. Ron Jelinek and Greg Sanchez are directing the show, with show sponsors being Red Mango and Ace Hardware.
Spamalot tickets are on sale now for through the box office. They are $15 each.
Tickets will be available soon at ticket outlets, Ace Hardware, Skagway and HyVee. Group rates are available for parties of 10 or more.
Due to some content, the show is not recommended for children. GILT will be among the first non-profits in the country to stage Spamalot, which only recently became available for production outside large professional companies. It will be the first time the show will be staged in Nebraska by a non-profit.
