Search Continues for Man Believed to Have Drowned in Eastern Nebraska Lake

Posted: Updated:

Officials are searching for the body of a 24-year-old man who is believed to have drowned at a lake in eastern Nebraska.

Family members identified the missing man Saturday evening as Jorge Manuel, of Madison. Authorities say an angler reported that Manuel and his family were on the south side of Lake North near Columbus when Manuel went into the water and didn't resurface.

Officials responded to the 911 call around 8 p.m. Saturday. Platte County Sheriff Jon Zavadil says the lake was blocked off while his deputies spent hours on Saturday evening and Sunday searching for the body.

A helicopter is scheduled to resume the search on Monday, weather permitting. Officials will scan from Lake North down the Loup Canal.
