The Supreme Court's landmark ruling on gay marriage is cause for celebration for those in Nebraska's LGBT community.
Some Nebraska residents say they've been waiting for the high court's rulings on the Defense of Marriage Act and California's Proposition Eight.
Even though it may not affect the state directly, some say it's historic.
Todd Ruhter said, "Maybe it's a key moment, a landmark moment. It's going to be an interesting road to see how this works out though. I know some couples that have children, a real family issue is involved and this recognition of marriage in some states that are legal where they received their marriage is going to make some things a little better for them."
These decisions do not legalize same sex marriage in Nebraska. That would require more legislation from the legislature.
