The Mary Lanning Healthcare Board of Trustees has announced a new president and CEO to lead the Hastings healthcare system.
The board named Eric Barber to the position in an announcement Friday. Barber is coming from Kirksville, Mo., where he had served as Northeast Regional Medical Center's COO, and most recently, its CEO.
"Mr. Barber's extensive background in healthcare will provide positive leadership for Mary Lanning in the future," shared Jeff Anderson, Board of Trustees president . "He seems to be the right fit as we navigate the challenges of remaining a strong, independent hospital in a changing healthcare environment."
Barber will oversee all clinical and fiscal operations of Mary Lanning, the acute-care hospital and medical clinics, including Hastings Family Practice, Moscati Health Center, the Community Health Center, Hastings Imaging Center, the Blue Hill and Edgar Medical Clinics and The Lanning Center for Behavioral Services.
Barber is known for his success in establishing collaborative relationships with physicians leading to strong satisfaction and retention. He also has extensive experience in quality and safety improvement.
Becker's Hospital Review named Barber as one of the "291 Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know" in 2011 and recognized the hospital in Kirksville as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals in 2011 while under Barber's leadership.
Barber earned a Bachelor's Degree for Kansas State University and a Master of Healthcare Administration Degree from the University of Kansas.
Barber will begin his new position on August 19.
