A record number of Kansas residents applied for concealed carry permits for their handguns during the 2013 fiscal year, according to Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt.
said his office received more than double the amount of applications received the pervious year, when the record was broken with 12,408 permit applications. The office reported that 25,340 applications were file between July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013.
Concealed carry permits have been issued in Kansas since 2007 after the Legislature passed a law enacting the program in 2006. As of July 1, there are 63,455 active concealed carry permits in Kansas.
