An annual book sale is helping the community in more ways than one.
Lines of people search through book–lined tables, as the Friends of the Hastings Library host its traditional book sale.
Now in its 30th year, this fundraising event has significantly grown, even becoming a vacation destination for some patrons. Libraries have budgets, and sometimes, they need friends to help.
"The money goes back into our library. We use it for things that the library budget doesn't cover," explained event coordinator Debbie Holmberg. "We've bought carpet for the children's room, we've bought furniture, we've bought books, just about anything they need that they can't budget for, we try to help supply."
Organizers are hoping to raise enough money to meet their goal, which has been averaging around $20,000.
