Grant Money Available for Community Tree Planting

Posted: Updated:

Trees for Nebraska Towns is making funding available for communities and organizations wishing to plant large shade trees.

The application deadline for grant funds is October 1. The funds are to be used for improving species diversity and proper planting and maintenance practices for trees and other landscaping plantings that benefit trees.

Projects must demonstrate high-quality and sustainable tree planting and care practices and should help conserve water and improve stormwater.

About $250,000 in grants is available this year with the maximum size of a funding request being $20,000. The money is provided by the Nebraska Environmental Trust, a beneficiary of the Nebraska Lottery.

More information and application forms can be found online at retreenebraska.unl.edu or by contacting Kendall Weyers at 402.472.6693.
