Fuller's Family Restaurant
Napa Auto Parts
A fire destroyed a popular family-owned restaurant in McCook Saturday night.
Crews were called to the scene of Fuller's Family Restaurant, at 218 W. B St., around 8:40 p.m. Saturday. The building was fully engulfed in flames and heaving smoke was coming out of all sides of the building.
Fifty-two firefighters from the McCook, Red Willow Western Rural, Culbertson and Indianola fire departments responded. Crews were on scene until around 1 p.m. Sunday trying to put out the fire from the outside due to the extreme heat inside the building.
The roof of the nearby Napa Auto Parts building also caught fire and suffered smoke and heat damage.
Officials believe the fire began in a walk-in cooler in the building's kitchen, but the investigation is ongoing.
The restaurant was a total loss.
Two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation, but were able to continue to fight the fire after treatment.
