As part of a special enforcement effort held in and around Buffalo
County from July 19-21, Kearney police made 68 arrests in addition to many more citations and warnings.
The enforcement was planned in conjunction with the annual Kearney Cruise Nite
celebration, which ran from July 17 to 21. The efforts centered on
weekend activities that included a classic car parade in downtown
Kearney Saturday night.
Kearney police responded to 95 incidents as part of the enforcement effort. Sixty-eight people were arrested, 18 people were given citations for traffic violations, while 24 individuals were given warning/defect tickets.
A large number of the calls received by the Buffalo County Dispatch Center involved disorderly conduct and/or alcohol related violations.
Additionally, 20 vehicles were towed from the downtown area in preparation for Cruise Nite.
Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol also took part in the special enforcement arresting two drivers for driving while intoxicated and citing 11 juveniles for possession of alcohol.
