Kearney Public Schools Receives Monsanto Grant

Posted: Updated:

Kearney Public Schools will now have all twelve of their schools involved in the Fuel Up to Play 60 program, and generous grand donations are kicking things off in the right direction.

The Monsanto Fund presented nearly $10,000 to the Midwest Dairy Council and Genyouth Foundation Thursday in Kearney. Funds for the KPS program came from this grant money.

"We've been able to bring in equipment that would help us with nutritious snacks and fitness activities for the students. We've been funded previously through the Dairy Council mostly, and now we've received some wonderful additional funding through our partners at Monsanto," says KPS Associate Superintendent Carol Renner.

After careful review, the Monsanto Fund awards grants to nonprofit programs across the country.

Plant manager Jeff Tremel explains, "The corporate office decided which programs are going to be funded each and every year. This year we were fortunate enough to bring some of that money back to Kearney again."

Six of the 12 KPS schools participated in the program last year and received high regards nationally, prompting them to add full participation across the district.
