The 11th annual Roy's Grand/Leadership Tomorrow Duck Pluck will take place September 7, but program leaders are already gearing up for the event.
Ducks go on sale August 1, and can be obtained at one of several locations throughout Grand Island:
Roy's Grand, 1803 South Locust Road
Grand Island Independent, 422 W. First
Leadership Tomorrow alumni or board member
Central at the GI Chamber of Commerce, 309 W. 2nd St
State Fair -- At the Rich & Son's display
Ducks can be adopted for $5 a duck, $25 for a six duck Quack Pack, $50 for a 13 duck Flock, or $100 for a 28 duck Max Pack. As an added bonus, each duck adoption paper comes with a $1 off coupon for any Route 44 drink from Sonic.
The actual event will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, starting with a free kids festival at 10:30 a.m. The festival will include inflatable jumpers, ring tosses, bean-bag throws, face painting,
balloons, candy and prizes. It will be held in the northwest play area outside of the Grand Island YMCA.
Following that, the Duck Pluck begins at noon in the Grand Island
YMCA swimming pool. Approximately 8,000 ducks will float in the pool as the YMCA
Quicksilver Swim Team dive in and pick the lucky winning ducks.
The grand prize this year
is $5,000 in cash sponsored by Case IH. Additional cash prizes range from $500 to $1,500, along with the chance to win one of several other non-cash prizes.
