Johanns Says They're Running Out of Time on Farm Bill

Posted: Updated:

Congress will soon head back home for summer recess but there are still plenty of agenda items left unfinished including the farm bill.

Senator Mike Johanns said that last week the senate revised the House version of the farm bill to align with the current senate version.

This new version will allow a conference committee to begin working through the differences and come up with one comprehensive bill but so far no committee has been organized.

Senator Johanns says they're running out of time.

"Fortunately, this year's fall harvest will be covered under the last farm bill, but we will face what's often referred to as a dairy cliff come January, and the farmers planting wheat this fall will need reauthorized risk management tools," he said.

The current farm bill expires on September 30th.
